Day 7 - 2014/10/06 (Monday)

Ema at Kanda Shrine

A very late blog of day 7 of my trip so some photos such as those of items are outdated. Omatase Shimashita.

Not surprisingly most of the ita-ema are Love Live inspired. My favourite ema is this one.

Day 7 - 2014/10/06 (Monday)

Typhoon and Kanda Shrine

A very late blog of day 7 of my trip so some photos such as those of items are outdated. Omatase Shimashita.

After a few days making its way from the south the typhoon finally reached Tokyo. This is what Sensoji looked like in the morning. Visitors took refuge in the main shrine while a delivery person was continuing with his deliveries. It was extremely windy and this was the heaviest rain I have experienced so far. You can see the bottom half of Skytree but at the peak of the storm it was completely obscured.

Once the typhoon passed it was fresh air and business as usual and no signs a typhoon had come and gone.

Now at Akihabara.

Comparison shot from Oreimo from s1e2. The obvious difference is that the old Radio Kaikan has been replaced with the new one. As a big fan of Steins;Gate I was sad to see only empty space during my visit in Oct 2013. For me the old Radio Kaikan was the icon of Akihabara.

Decided to check out what new items/prototypes were being displayed at the Tamashii Nations gallery. Due to the harsh lighting in the display cases taking photos was difficult so here are a few photos.

Visit the stores in Radio Kaikan.

Many stores prohibit photography but took this one of the display cases which was visible from the concourse. Many items are over priced but it is good to have a look as it is interesting to see what items are for sale.

Only purchase at Radio Kaikan was Mikuru Asahina to complete my MaxFactory set of the main three female characters from Haruhi Suzumiya. Picked her up for 2150yen at one of the stores.

Next destination is Ochanomizu.

Below is a comparison shot from alternate Steins;Gate 23 β episode (20:14). Above photo was taken from the side walk while that from the anime is taken further back from the middle of the street. The building on the left nearest the Sobu Line bridge is Niko's apartment from Love Live. This building is scheduled to be demolished and the area along the river to be modernised prior the 2020 olympics.

Looking towards Ochanomizu with Maach Ecute on the left.

Comparison shot from Love Live movie (42:07).

This area is where you can see three different train lines crossing each other from different elevations. I meet another Australian who was studying I think photography and was taking photos here for a project.

Comparison scene from Love Live s1e9 (10:28).

The very familiar steps leading to Kanda Shrine which is on the south-east of the shrine. The main entrance is on the south-west side.

Ema at Kanda. You can see more photos of the ema in another post

Made brief visits Kotobukiya and Madarake before returning to Asakusa.

Loot of the day. Racing Miku 2014 tapestry.

Got Yotsuba Typhoon version a day too late. Anyway here she is at Sensoji. An elderly japanese man had some joy watching me take photos of Yotsuba.
